Google Introduces AI Mode in Poland—New Era of Search with Source Links

Google has officially launched AI Mode in Poland. The new search feature allows users to ask more complex questions and receive AI-generated answers—with visible, clickable links to sources. This is another step in the transformation of search, which is increasingly relying on AI.

What is AI Mode?

AI Mode is an expansion of the already familiar AI Overview. The difference? According to Google, the new mode allows for even more precise query formulation and presents content in various formats.

The key promise is that links to sources remain visible and clickable. Google claims that clicks on links from AI overviews have “higher search accuracy”—users spend more time on the indicated pages because they land on quality content matching their needs.

How Does It Work in Practice?

The system is based on Google’s core ranking mechanisms but uses “new approaches” to verify information credibility. Answers are generated by AI “as often as possible.”

However, when confidence in the answer is insufficient, the user will see traditional search results. Google openly admits answers won’t always be correct, as the feature is still in early stages of development.

My Take: Promises vs. Reality

Sounds familiar, right? Google has been assuring us for months that AI Overview and related features “increase traffic to sites” and “support publishers.” Market data tells a different story.

Studies prove that AI-generated answers drastically reduce CTR on organic results. Users get their answer immediately—why would they click further? The argument about “higher click accuracy” is clever spin: maybe those who do click stay longer, but how many actually click?

In my opinion, Google is trying to sell us a narrative where everyone wins. Publishers get “quality traffic,” users get better answers, and Google… well, Google controls the entire ecosystem even more tightly.

The biggest problem? AI Mode ranking transparency remains a black box. We don’t know:

  • How AI selects sources to cite
  • Whether paid results can influence AI answers
  • What ranking signals matter in the new mode

What Does This Mean for SEO?

If you run content marketing based on informational queries, prepare for traffic drops. Strategies around “how to do X” or “what is Y” may stop working because Google will answer these questions itself.
